According to British media, Prince Charles was warned that doing so could cause national outrage, but he ignored it.

According to media reports, the money was donated to Prince Charles' charity by Sheikh Bakr bin Laden of the Laden family and his brother Sheikh Shafiq.

Clarence House says Prince Charles neither brokered the deal or decided to accept it, the decision to accept the donation was made by the trustees of the Prince of Wales' Charitable Fund.
