Electricity in the country is likely to become more expensive by Rs 4.69 paise per unit.

In the request given to Nepra by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), it has been asked to increase the price of electricity by 4 rupees 69 paise per unit for the monthly fuel adjustment of July.

According to CPPA, in July, 35.17% of electricity was generated from water and 12.74% from coal, 1.46% from diesel and 6.42% from furnace oil.

According to CPPA, 10.36% of electricity was generated from local gas and 14.98% from imported LNG, the cost of electricity generated from LNG was Rs.28.28 paise per unit. Apart from this, 14.20% of electricity was generated from nuclear fuel with a production cost of Rs.1 per unit.

It has been informed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency that the cost of electricity generated by diesel was 27 rupees 88 paise per unit, while electricity generated from furnace oil was priced at 35 rupees 69 paise per unit.


The Central Power Purchasing Agency says that a total of 13 billion 76 crore units of electricity were sold in July, the production cost for July was fixed at Rs 6 28 paise per unit, however the cost of electricity production remained at Rs 10 98 paise per unit.


Nepra will hear the CPPA petition on August 31 and the hike in electricity prices could result in an additional burden of over Rs 75 billion on consumers.
