Another major disadvantage of sleep deprivation came to light

Lack of sleep weakens the body internally and increases the risk of various diseases.

This was revealed in a new medical study in the United States.

The Icahn School of Medicine study involved 14 healthy people who did not have sleep problems.

For the first 6 weeks during the study, all subjects were ensured to have 7 to 8 hours of sleep (which is also recommended by medical experts).

Lack of sleep had negative effects on immune cells called monocytes, which increased the risk of inflammation in the body, the researchers said.

The study also discovered that prolonged sleep deprivation also had negative effects on gene function.

After that, the subjects' sleep duration was reduced to 90 minutes each night for another 6 weeks.

At the end of both phases, volunteers' blood samples were collected and immune cell activity was assessed.

The results showed that people in the first stage did not experience any negative changes, but the activity of certain immune cells increased when sleep duration decreased.

The researchers said that we do not confirm the risk of any disease, but the spread of edema increases the risk of various diseases, more research is needed in this regard.

He added that these immune cells begin to function differently, which may increase the risk of coronary artery disease.

He said that the changes in DNA caused by lack of sleep are apparently permanent and even sleeping for an adequate amount of time again does not change the situation.
