Liz Turs defeats Rishi Sonic, the new Prime Minister-elect of the United Kingdom

 



Liz Turs has been elected as the new Prime Minister of Great Britain, defeating her own party's Rishi Sonic in the race to be elected as party leader.

Newly elected Prime Minister Liz Truss got 81 thousand 326 votes, Liz Truss's rival Rishi Sonik could get 60 thousand 399 votes. Liz Truss' victory was announced at the Queen Elizabeth II Hall near Parliament.

The Queen of Great Britain will ask Liz Truss to take over as Prime Minister

There were 11 candidates for the Prime Ministerial race, Liz Truss was first elected as Member of Parliament for Norfolk in 2010.

Liz Truss, who has served in the Cabinets of David Cameron, Theresa May and Boris Johnson, said on the campaign trail that she would tackle the energy bills issue within weeks.

Liz Truss also promised to present a government plan to cut taxes in a few months.

It should be noted that Boris Johnson announced his resignation from the Prime Ministership on July 7 after the scandals came to light.

Tory MPs Liz Turs and Rishi Sonic were left in the fray after different stages of voting.

The new Prime Minister will have 870 days in Downing Street due to the expected election in the UK on January 23, 2025.
