The new Local Government Bill passed in the Punjab Assembly, the people will directly elect the mayor

 

According to the Local Government Bill, the upcoming local elections in Punjab will be on party basis, there will be 25 Zilla Councils and 11 Metropolitan Corporations in Punjab.

Union councils will be formed in the villages and towns of Punjab, tehsil councils and towns have been abolished in the new Local Government Act, each district will have a district cabinet and Hargaon will have a village panchayat council.

According to the bill, the Metropolitan Corporation will be headed by the Mayor, the people will elect the Mayor by direct vote, all development authorities, WASAs and PHs will be under the Metropolitan Mayor.
