The US government has imposed new rules to stop the export of supercomputers and computer chips equipped with artificial intelligence to China and Russia.
According to a document filed with the SEC by one of the companies, NVIDIA, the government informed that GPUs designed for machine learning tasks will need to obtain new licenses before they can be sold in certain countries.
According to the company, the government has indicated that these chips could be used for military purposes.
A spokesman for the US Commerce Department said AI and machine learning technology could be used for a number of applications, including weapons development and surveillance.
Earlier in August 2022, the US implemented an export control law to block China's access to chips needed to manufacture the latest processors.
Another company, AMD, said it would not be able to export its chips to China due to the new rules.
